How to use LocalHandyman.work
Find your guy — not just a guy. Vetted pros, 60-second booking, military-clean discipline from first contact to final sign-off. Here's the full guide for homeowners and pros alike.
How homeowners find a handyman
LocalHandyman.work connects you directly to one verified pro — not a roomful of contractors competing to bid on your lead. Enter your ZIP, describe the job, and see real prices from real pros who actually cover your neighborhood. No auction, no callbacks from strangers, no surprises.
Every pro on the platform carries current insurance on file. Where state law requires a license for the work being performed, we verify it against the state board before the "Verified Pro" badge is granted. You see what's been checked — and when — before you book.
Search by ZIP
Your ZIP code is the foundation of every search. We only surface pros who have listed your neighborhood in their service area — so you never waste time on a quote from a contractor two counties away. Type your ZIP on the search page and we'll filter the list instantly.
Urgency matters too. Filter by same-day availability if you need someone today, or browse the full roster if you're planning a weekend project. Availability is live — pros mark their calendar inside their dashboard, so what you see is what's actually open.
Compare reviews & prices
Every review on LocalHandyman.work is tied to a real Appointment record. No anonymous stars, no inflated averages, no reviews bought from marketing agencies. You'll see the reviewer's first name, the type of job, and the date it was completed — so you can judge for yourself whether a pro is the right fit for your project.
Prices are shown as a range based on your job type and ZIP — urgency and weekend premiums are included upfront, never tacked on after. For national benchmarks and what drives the high-low spread in your area, visit our pricing hub.
Book a job
Booking takes about 60 seconds. Choose your pro, pick a date and time from their live calendar, add any notes or photos that help describe the job, and confirm. You'll get an immediate confirmation email and a reminder the day before — no waiting on a callback.
The job stays open in your dashboard until you confirm completion. That means the pro can't close the record and walk away — you have the final sign-off. If anything changes before the appointment, you can reschedule or cancel directly from the dashboard with no phone calls needed.
Message your pro
Once a booking is confirmed, you can message your pro directly through the platform. Share a photo of the problem, ask about materials, or confirm the arrival window — all in one thread that's saved to the job record. Your personal contact information is never auctioned to anyone.
Pros on the platform use SMS-backed messaging so replies come fast, even when they're on a job site. If you don't get a response within a reasonable window, our support team can step in.
Leave a review
After you confirm job completion, you'll receive a review request via email. Your honest rating — stars plus a few sentences — is exactly what the next homeowner needs to make a good decision. We never delete reviews to protect a pro's score; only fraudulent submissions are removed after investigation.
Great reviews are also what gets good pros more work. If your handyman showed up on time, did the job right, and left the space clean, a 5-star review is the best way to keep quality pros in your neighborhood. See our FAQ for more on our review integrity policy.
Create your profile
Sign up with your business name, email, and a password. After email confirmation, you'll land on the onboarding wizard that walks you through every step before your profile goes live. The whole setup takes under 15 minutes for most pros — we'll prompt you for everything.
Identity verification is mandatory before your first booking. Upload a government-issued ID, your Certificate of Insurance, and — where state law requires it — your license number for state board verification. Once cleared, you get the "Verified Pro" badge that homeowners use to shortlist.
Add your services
From your CRM dashboard, navigate to Services and add each job type you perform. Be specific: "drywall patch" converts better than "general repair" because homeowners search by task, not trade. Each service gets its own description, a default price range, and a lead time setting.
Add the services you're actually good at — not everything you could theoretically do. Homeowners read between the lines, and a tightly scoped service list builds more trust than a mile-long menu. You can add or archive services at any time from your dashboard.
Upload before & after photos
Photos are the single most effective thing you can put on your profile. A gallery of real before-and-after shots tells homeowners more than a hundred words of copy. Add them under Portfolio in your dashboard — we accept JPEG and PNG up to 10 MB per image, and we auto-optimize for web display.
Caption each photo with the job type and the city it was done in. Those captions feed the alt text and SEO metadata for your public profile, which helps homeowners in your area find you organically through search engines.
Set prices & service areas
Navigate to Pricing in your dashboard to set your per-service rates. You can enter a fixed price, a low-high range, or "by quote." Transparent pricing is one of the top filters homeowners use — profiles with a visible price range get significantly more clicks than profiles showing only "contact for quote."
Your service area is defined by ZIP codes. Add every ZIP you'll actually travel to — if you won't drive to it, leave it off. Out-of-area bookings waste your time and damage your response rate, which is shown on your public profile. Start tight and expand as you grow your team.
Get more leads
The fastest way to grow on the platform is to respond quickly and close jobs cleanly. Response rate and review score are the two primary ranking factors on search results pages. Enable SMS notifications in your dashboard so you're the first pro to respond when a homeowner in your ZIP submits a job — first response wins most of the time.
Elite-tier pros also get AI-powered follow-up tools: automated job win/loss analysis, AI-drafted estimates, and a blog assistant that publishes content to your profile page — which ranks locally and pulls organic traffic. It's a flat subscription, with no per-lead fees eating into your margin. Compare that to Angi's $30–$80 per lead at our FAQ.
Getting-started checklist
Everything you need before your first booking or job.
Homeowners
- Search by ZIP — enter your zip code on the find page to see verified pros in your neighborhood.
- Create a free account — needed to book, message a pro, and review. Browsing and comparing is always free.
- Confirm the scope up front — use the job notes field to describe the problem clearly so your pro arrives with the right tools.
- Leave an honest review — your review is what helps the next homeowner make a good decision, and it keeps standards high on the platform.
Pros
- Create your profile — sign up, complete identity verification, and upload your COI before going live.
- Add 3–5 core services — be specific. "Ceiling fan install" outperforms "electrical work" for local search and homeowner confidence.
- Upload before & after photos — even three solid gallery images significantly increase profile click-through rate.
- Enable SMS notifications — first-responder wins. Turn on SMS alerts in your dashboard settings so you're notified the moment a job comes in from your ZIP codes.
