1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly: name, email, phone number, address, and payment method details when you create an account or make a booking. Pro accounts additionally provide business name, service area, trade credentials, and (optionally) insurance and license documentation.
We automatically collect usage data when you interact with the Platform — pages visited, search queries, booking actions, and device/browser information via server logs. We do not sell this data to third parties or use it for behavioral advertising.
2. Cookies & analytics
We use a consent-managed cookie setup. A cookie consent banner is displayed to new visitors; analytics and tracking cookies are only set after you accept. We set a first-party visitor key cookie for anonymous session analytics. This cookie contains no personally identifiable information.
We use Google Analytics (with IP anonymization enabled) to understand aggregate traffic patterns. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Cookie preferences can be updated at any time via the consent banner link in our footer.
3. SMS consent (TCPA)
If you provide a phone number and opt in to SMS communications, you consent to receive text messages from LocalHandyman.work and from Pros you book through the Platform, including booking confirmations, reminders, and (for opted-in marketing) promotional messages. Consent is not required to purchase or use any services.
Message and data rates may apply. To opt out at any time, reply STOP to any message. Reply HELP for support information. You can also manage your SMS preferences from your account settings. We honor all opt-out requests within one business day.
4. Sharing with pros
When you initiate contact with or book a Pro, we share your job request details with that Pro — your name, contact information, job location, and the description you provided. This is necessary to fulfill the booking. Pros are contractually prohibited from using your data for purposes other than completing the job.
We do not sell your personal information to data brokers, advertisers, or any third party. We may share data with service providers who help us operate the Platform (e.g., payment processors, identity verification, email delivery) under strict data processing agreements.
5. Data retention
We retain account data for as long as your account is active plus a reasonable period afterward for dispute resolution and legal compliance. Booking records are retained for a minimum of three years for fraud prevention and dispute purposes.
Server logs containing IP addresses are retained for 90 days. Analytics data is aggregated and anonymized after 26 months. Deleted account data is purged within 30 days of a verified deletion request, except where retention is required by law.
6. Your choices & deletion requests
You can access, correct, or export your personal data from your account settings at any time. To request deletion of your account and associated data, submit a request via our contact page or email support@localhandyman.work. We will process verified requests within 30 days.
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA including the right to know, delete, and opt out of sale (we do not sell personal information). Other state privacy laws may grant similar rights — contact us to exercise any applicable rights.
7. Children
The Platform is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will promptly delete their account and data.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Platform evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify active registered users by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect.
